In Teatro dell'ascolto neemt Jan Michiels de lezer mee op een avontuurlijke tocht doorheen het hoofd van een uitvoerend musicus. Welke dromen, symbolen, mythes, herinneringen liggen aan de basis van het creatie- én uitvoeringsproces? Met ‘Prometeo' van Luigi Nono als uitgangspunt schetst Jan Michiels een ‘tragedie van het luisteren'. Want wat betekent ‘luisteren' nog in het tumult van de hedendaagse samenleving? Bovenal is Teatro dell'ascolto een multidimensionaal parcours geworden, een parcours dat de noodzakelijkheid van muziek, en kunst in het algemeen, in elk mensenleven aantoont. Jan Michiels is een Belgische muziekpedagoog en pianist. Hij treedt regelmatig op als solist maar vormt ook een pianoduo met Inge Spinette. Zijn naam is verbonden met de dansproducties van onder andere de Vlaamse Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 2011 behaalde hij met zijn proefschrift nog de graad van doctor in de kunsten met grootste onderscheiding.
