Aus dem Vorwort von Elmar Schloter: "Zu den bedeutendsten Werken von Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893) gehört ohne Zweifel die "Messe solennelle de Sainte Cécile" aus dem Jahre 1855. Schon bei den ersten Aufführungen in London maß die Kritik ihr die hohe und besondere Bedeutung zu, die ihr auch heute noch unter den großen Messe-Vertonungen zukommt.
Diese von mir vorgelegte, praktische Ausgabe entstand mit durch meine reiche Aufführungspraxis an der St. Michaelskirche in München. Sie weicht von der Originalpartitur ab durch sinnvolle Ergänzungen in der Harfenstimme und durch eine variierbare Blechbläserbesetzung je nach Größe des zur Verfügung stehenden Orchesters..."
