Bachs Kantate zum 1. Sonntag nach Trinitatis, erstmals aufgeführt im Jahr 1726, gehört zu den musikalisch reizvollsten Kompositionen des Thomaskantors. Der opulent angelegte Eingangschor veranschaulicht im wechselchörigen Musizieren von Oboen, Blockflöten und Streichern programmatisch die Geste des Brotbrechens. Die Arien und Rezitative für die beiden Solisten Alt und Tenor zeigen Bach auf der Höhe seiner kompositorischen Fähigkeiten. Die zweiteilige Kantate schließt mit einem schlichten Choralsatz.
