Richard Rodgers: Blue moon
Richard Rodgers (1902 - 1979)
This arrangement of the familiar standard Blue Moon carries the subtitle du point de vue de M.R.. The piece looks at our well-known heavenly companion from the point of view of a French composer, who
launched an even better known bolero.
The similarity between the two melodies triggered this adaptation. This latin version essentially is a metamorphosis from the Richard Rodgers ballad into that other bolero. Along the way a number of characteristic features from the classical piece are converted and woven into this concert band adaptation.
Keep a close watch on the constant slow to moderate tempo and the very gradual increase towards the orchestral climax near the end; don't try this just once in a blue moon!
