De Ierse volksmuziek kent de laatste jaren een enorme revival met grootse shows als Riverdance en Lord of the Dance als de meest succesvolle voorbeelden. De muziek van deze shows werd op een gepaste wijze bewerkt voor heelwat andere genres waaronder het blaasorkest. Tegen deze achtergrond gaf de Fodens Courtois Band (olv Nicholas J.Childs) in 2000 naar aanleiding van hun 100-jarige bestaan een opdracht aan Peter Graham voor deze Gaelforce, een suite van drie Ierse volksdansen. Nadien maakte Peter Graham nog een versie voor harmonieorkest voor de ‘Royal Norwegian Navy Band' (olv Nigel Boddice). De versie voor fanfareorkest is van de hand van Luc Vertommen. Gaelforce is een driedelige suite die de verschillende kleuren en de afwisseling binnen het moderne blaasorkest extra in de verf zet. Het eerste deel ‘The Rocky Road to Dublin' is een ‘jig', een snelle Ierse dans, waar vooral voor de bugels en de saxofoons enige vingervlugheid vereist is. In het langzame middendeel ‘The Minstrel Boy' komen de meer lyrische Ierse aspekten aan bod. Zowel ‘The Minstrel Boy' als de finale ‘Tossing the Feathers' staan op het programma van de Ierse folkgroep The Corrs. ‘The Minstrel Boy' is een contrastrijke ballade met de bugels en nadien de volledige saxofoongroep in de hoofdrol. ‘Tossing the Feathers' is een krachttoer voor de slagwerkers, baritones/euphoniums, bugels en uiteindelijk het volledige orkest.
