Zo zong Wannes Van de Velde (1937-2008) het zelf op zijn laatste cd in 2006. Twee jaar later overleed hij. Maar met deze biografie is hij opniéuw een beetje terug. Vertrekkend vanuit urenlange gesprekken op de trein tussen Antwerpen en Berlijn, en gretig puttend uit de zanger zijn persoonlijk archief, reconstrueert voormalig VRT-producer Dree Peremans het leven en werk van Wannes Van de Velde. Want Wannes was zoveel meer dan dé figuur van de Vlaamse folkrevival: flamencogitarist, schilder, tekenaar, liedjesschrijver, componist, decorontwerper- en bouwer, lesgever, columnist, schrijver voor het plezier van de pen op het papier, inspirator voor vele muzikanten … maar bovenal een grote meneer die boos op de wereld kon zijn maar niet op de mensen die hem bevolken.
