The two pieces presented in this edition were originally written for clarinet and wind band. To understand the context in which the works come about, our score is accompanied by an excellent biographical study written by Ángel Lluís Ferrando. His research has revealed great deal of unknown information and has also allowed to date the pieces around 1890.
Calvist was leading the Royal Halberdiers Band from 1892 to 1896, it is very likely that Fantasía and Capricho were composed as contest pieces and around those years.
