Johann Sebastian Bach: Ruht Wohl (from St. John Passion, BWV.245)
Ruht Wohl (from St. John Passion, BWV.245)
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750)
Violoncelle et piano
"Ruht Wohl" is the final Chorus from the St. John Passion and takes the form of a Da Capo Aria with opening ritornello.
This beautiful music, cri de coeur for the human heart and spirit, comes at a dark point in the Passion story yet there is constant play of light and colour hinting at the hope and renewal of Easter. Sweeping melodic lines are a gift for cello and the arrangement retains all counterpoint, dramatic episode, formal symmetry of the original.
