Baba Yetu (Score & parts)
Description
“Baba Yetu” is an orchestral gospel composition by Christopher Tin from 2005. The song was written as the title track for the computer game Civilization IV at the request of Soren Johnson, the game’s lead designer and Tin’s former roommate. The Civilization version was sung by the Stanford Talisman, a choir from Stanford University. The song was re-recorded for Tin’s 2009 debut album, Calling All Dawns. This version, sung by the Soweto Gospel Choir and accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, won a Grammy Award in 2011 for Best Instrumental Accompaniment of a Vocalist. It was the first time that music from a video game had been nominated for a Grammy. Frank Bernaerts wrote an impressive arrangement that you can also perform with a choir if you wish.
