The new "Workbook I Orchestration" by Dr Piet J. Swerts contains 210 pages of not only 60 orchestration exercises starting from piano reductions with the orchestral score extract as a solution, but also analyses and recording excerpts of these examples from the masterpieces. They are structurally grouped and selected according to five basic types of orchestral textures. The listen-and-follow-orchestrate method applied to these existing fragments is an efficient way to gain insight and technique in this domain. An Dutch edition is now also available.
